NDA Gains Clear Majority in Lok Sabha Election 2024  – Modi to Get 3rd Term, Consecutively

On Tuesday evening, the Election Commission announced the results of all the Lok Sabha constituencies. The BJP-led NDA gained the majority in Lok Sabha with 293 seats whereas the I.N.D.I.A bloc secured 232 seats. 

BJP emerged victorious with 240 seats alongside 99 seats secured by Congress. The Congress seats were almost double the number as compared to the 2019 elections. PM Narendra Modi, celebrated the victorious win of the BJP-led NDA, forming the majority in Lok Sabha. He resumed office with his third tenure, after dissolving the current government in a Cabinet Meeting held on Wednesday.

Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan : Tough Battle Ground

Akhilesh Yadav’s Samajwadi party made a strong comeback with 37 seats reducing the BJP count to 35 from 62 in 2019.  The INDIA bloc in UP posed a major challenge to NDA, on this front. The fragmented electorate in Maharashtra also influenced the numbers nationally. 12 out of 42 seats were secured by BJP, showcasing the regional powers at its best. BJP also lost ten seats in Rajasthan, with Congress winning 8.

PM Modi celebrated the ‘new history’, after the results came

PM Narendra Modi, on celebrating the win, claimed that a ‘new history’ has been created. After 1962, this was the first time in Indian history that a government would resume office in its third tenure. He also claimed this win to be the ‘victory of the resolve of ‘viksit bharat’’, i.e. ‘sabka sath sabka vikas’, and emphasized the belief of the masses in the Indian Constitution. 

“The NDA government will work together with all state governments. We don’t have time to stop. After six decades, voters have scripted history. The NDA got a chance to serve the country for the third time,” he said.
